In the past year, more babies have been named peculiar names like Apple, Mac, and even Siri. According to the BabyCenter website, seventeen babies were named Siri, forty-nine were named Mac, and six were names Apple. Are parents this obsessed over their phones that they would name them crazy names like these? The influence of Apple products over this past year have been growing drastically. Wherever you turn, you see an iPhone, whether it is a first grader that has the new iPhone 5 or a businessman who says his whole life and job relies on his cell phone. The addiction to technology is growing, and while it is quite terrifying, it is amazing to see how one company can play such a big role in our lives. The scary part comes in when people realize that not every product Apple releases is for the good of society. Quite the opposite really. Apple takes advantage of their influence by brainwashing children into wanting the newest iPod or iPhone by their advertisements. It is a parents job to make sure that these influences are channeled in the right way, and naming a child after the company itself does not seem like a step in the appropriate direction.

Pure stupidity, I have never heard of a child named Apple, nor Mac and I do not want hear it either. I find it disgusting how people that stupid exists, I no longer want to live on this planet when their are people who name their KIDS after a company or product. Not only is it a bad name for the kids, but the child can be influenced by others to name their kids other products like Droid, the day that happens, I will positive that I will no longer have faith in modern society, get yourself together and give your child the name he/she deserves.
ReplyDeleteThis is pure entertainment! I do not understand why parents would name their children Mac or Apple, but the name Siri unexpectedly stands out. Siri is recognized for knowing every piece of information; and for a child to be named after such a program is a privilege. Yes, at times it can be considered unfortunate to witness children be extensively dependent on technology(including myself), but it can also be seen as a wonderful advancement. Children who are born recently have the advantage of being exposed to amazing technology which will aid them in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt seems as if the names of children become more odd as the years pass. Naming a child after a company, like Apple, is unfair for the child. Parents try to give their children unique names, but Mac and Siri are a bit too unique. I agree with Gevo; the shift in names will influence future generations to name their children after companies. The obsession with technology is understandable, but there must be a line that one does not cross. Unfortunately, society has not just crossed the line, they have leaped over it. The innovative features and abilities that technology provides one with is unbelievable, but the idea of naming children after companies and products is a sharp turn towards a foreign and dangerous area.
ReplyDeleteI came across this article, looked at the title, and thought to myself how pathetic this was. Usually children are named after great heroes or family members or beautiful places. You made a great point on how a company can play that big of a role on society. One can only imagine how much these Apple products have affected our society that even children deserve to be named after them, now. If this is what technology is coming to, I cannot wait to see what else there will be to read about.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the idea of naming your child after a company is ridiculous. Your child is not a thing nor is it a company to be named after it. If one is really that obsessed with their phone or loves the company that much that it drove them to the crazy idea of naming their child 'Mac' or 'Apple', then this goes to show how technology can really affect someone. People should not be obsessed with materialistic items or materials because one day it will be gone or it will eventually break. If one day Apple is not popular in the technology aspect of our society anymore, then I am fifth percent sure that the parent of the child named 'Apple' will regret naming their child after a company no one cares about any longer. If this obsession and stupidity continues, then our society and the future generations will be strongly influenced by it in the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, I am not even surprised that people would be doing this. The generation is gradually becoming more technological, and people are becoming more dependent on it. The Apple company has been around for a long time, but is now beginning to increase in popularity. Who says it will stay this popular forever? One day or another, Apple could be the worst company, and people will regret naming their kids after the company's products.
